About Us
Who We Are
The GL News Mental Health Portal is a youth-centered digital space powered by One Purpose Love and the Genesis Legacy News Initiative. Designed for youth ages 10–19 in the south suburbs of Illinois, the portal offers accessible mental health education, peer storytelling, and local resources.
Our Mission
Our mission is to make emotional wellness visible and relatable by combining journalism, public health, and community voice. We host workshops, publish youth-led content, and create safe spaces for selfexpression and connection. Through storytelling, we help youth build coping skills, navigate challenges, and reduce stigma around mental health.
Our Commitment
As part of our commitment to care and prevention, we offer Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training to equip adults and youth allies with the tools to recognize and respond to mental health needs among young people. Whether you’re a student, educator, or caregiver, the GL News Mental Health Portal is here to uplift, inform, and connect our community.
Our Supporters
This project is supported by the Illinois Department of Public Health with funding provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
